Drawing from a unique background as both an attorney and full-time photographer, Lauren brings a thoughtful approach to seeing from multiple perspectives, solving visual problems in real time, and connecting with people through photography. Whether capturing candid street scenes, layered urban narratives, or fleeting interactions, participants will learn how to slow down, observe more intentionally, and create images that reflect our shared human experience.

    Lauren Welles

Lauren is a freelance photographer and former corporate attorney who left an unfulfilling, 16-year career to follow her passion for photography. She is attracted to ideas and stories that display our commonalities as people; she believes human beings are much more alike than they are different. One of her greatest joys is to make candid photographs of people, in which a single frame can tell a multitude of stories. Lauren’s photography has received several awards and has been exhibited at various venues around the world, including: the Museum of the City of New York, “The Fence” at Photoville, The Half King Photo Series, and Coolture Impact’s exhibit in Times Square, in New York City. Her work and interviews have been published in a number of publications, including the New York Times; La Repubblica, CBS News, The New Yorker, Slate Magazine, various street photography books, as well as in the documentary film “Fill the Frame.” She also conducts private workshops and teaches photography for the Leica Akademie.

For 50 years, Leica Galleries across the globe have existed as more than mere exhibition spaces. They are places for imagination, dialogue, and connection. Since the first Leica Gallery opened in Wetzlar in 1976, a global network of Leica Galleries has grown across continents. These galleries are united by the belief that images have the power to move people and change perspectives. The Leica Galleries celebrate the art of seeing and the power of photography. They have been bringing cultures, generations, and stories together, spanning borders, for half a century—reinforcing the idea that true photography is timeless and that seeing is still a universal language.
