Fault Lines brings together the work of first- and second-year MFA Photography students at Parsons School of Design, offering a collective snapshot of a program grounded in experimentation, critical inquiry, and the continual redefinition of photographic practice. Positioned within an innovative fine arts and experimentaframework, the MFA challenges students to push beyond conventional image-making, engaging photography as a fluid, expanded field that intersects with installation, moving image, sculpture, and emerging technologies.

Across diverse approaches and media, the exhibition reflects a shared commitment to probing the conditions of contemporary image culture. The artists engage questions of authorship, perception, memory, and power, often working across disciplines to test the limits of what photography can be and do.

Fault Lines is not a unified statement, but a dynamic field of inquiry, an evolving terrain shaped by dialogue, experimentation, and difference. It invites viewers to consider not only what is visible, but what lies beneath the surface: the shifts, stresses, and possibilities that define both the medium and the moment.

    Parsons School of Design

A pioneer in art and design education for more than a century, Parsons School of Design is one of the most prestigious and comprehensive colleges of art and design in the world. Critical thinking, collaboration, and reflective practice are at the heart of a Parsons education. Located in the heart of New York City, the school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the full spectrum of design disciplines. A student-centered curriculum allows for both focused and interdisciplinary learning to master concepts, technologies, and research methods that cut across a wide array of fields. By synthesizing theory with craft, and combining art and design studies with the liberal arts and business, Parsons prepares its students to shape scholarship in their field and make art and design that matters. Its faculty of notable artists, design practitioners, critics, historians, writers, and scholars exemplify an extraordinary breadth of vision. The goal of the 26-month program is to prepare graduates to define the creative role of photography within contemporary culture as practicing artists and scholars, challenging participants to move beyond current paradigms—to anticipate and set trends, rather than follow them.
