Featuring: Samantha Isom, Shravya Kag, Hengyi Yang
This exhibition features three projects created by members of our department’s photo community—a current student, an alum, and a faculty member. All three projects are, in different ways, about travel, distance, and connection.
In his project, created for our Editorial Photography class, current student Hengyi (Harry) Yang explores the long-distance relationship with his girlfriend back home in China through a series of still-life photographs and short texts.
In Vellostha (“I will go and come back,” in Telugu), alumna Shravya Kag (class of 2016) conects her current queer, gender non-conforming self to a nostalgic, traditionally gendered self on trips between her native India and her home in Brooklyn. This photographic project is a synthesis of this iterative journey.
Sound, Motion & Video instructor Samantha Isom’s Brown Passport is an ongoing global documentary series that engages underrepresented perspectives and explores culture through raw, authentic conversations on race, faith, and gender.
