ICP at THE POINT: Ready to Rise is an exhibition of photographs by students and alumni from the International Center of Photography’s community partnership with THE POINT CDC. Based in the South Bronx and launched in 1997, the program is a year-round collaboration that teaches analog and digital photography, critical thinking, writing, and public speaking with the goal of fostering self-esteem, community development, and social change. The program includes weekly after-school classes for preteens, teens, and young adults, which take place in both a physical and virtual classroom/studio/darkroom as well as a gallery space. This exhibition celebrates local voices, capturing the people, places, and things that uplift us in our everyday lives.

ICP at THE POINT is made possible with generous support from the Richard Avedon Foundation, Joy of Giving Something, Inc., the Pinkerton Foundation, Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation, William Talbott Hillman Foundation, the Keith Haring Foundation, Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation, the Robert and Toni Bader Charitable Foundation, Houston Family Foundation, Susan and Thomas Dunn, Stuart Z. Katz and Jane D. Martin, Monika and Deven Parekh, May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, and Lois and Bruce Zenkel.

This program is supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

The International Center of Photography (ICP)

The International Center of Photography (ICP) is the world’s leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture. Cornell Capa founded ICP in 1974 to champion “concerned photography” — socially and politically minded images that can educate and change the world. Through our exhibitions, education programs, community outreach, and public programs, ICP offers an open forum for dialogue about the power of the image.

As part of Photoville Festival 2023, ICP will be providing family activities, youth panels for our EDU days, and workshops hosted at their center – check back for more details throughout May!

  • The Point CDC

    The Point CDC

THE POINT Community Development Corporation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) dedicated to youth development and the cultural and economic revitalization of the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. THE POINT supports their neighbors in celebrating the life and art of the community — an area traditionally defined solely in terms of its poverty, crime rate, poor schools, and substandard housing. They believe the area’s residents, their talents, and aspirations are THE POINT’s greatest assets.
