The LGBT Community Center

New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center empowers people to lead healthy, successful lives. The Center celebrates our diversity and advocates for justice and opportunity. For members of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth community, we provide a safe, inclusive and affirming environment to foster relationships, personal and professional skills, and the evolution of identity. Open to young people between the ages of 13-21.

The Center’s X-Posure photography program is geared toward self-advocacy and representation, providing a platform for LGBTQ+ youth to explore and share their diverse and intersecting identities. Advocating on the importance of having the agency to tell their own stories. The program runs in cycles of 10-week and combines other narrative forms to address the diverse issues that resonate with our youth’s life stories. Youth learn the basics of photography and storytelling by exploring different formats such as portraiture, photojournalism, and personal photo essays.
