In Our Season of Discontent, Count It All Joy is an exploration of the Black vernacular through photographs depicting gatherings, essential workers, pioneers, genius, and joy. Drawn from the archival collections of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture Photographs and Print Division, these images are nestled inside NYC parks, where the vegetation makes it easier to breathe and provide a respite during quarantine. They offer a view of Black life that resists against the present and historical record of systemic racism and violence perpetrated against Black communities.
