Tim Hetherington (1970 — 2011) was a photographer, human rights advocate, journalist, and filmmaker. “I want to record world events, big History told in the form of a small history, the personal perspective that gives my life meaning and significance. My work is all about building bridges between myself and the audience.”
The Tim Hetherington Trust mission is to promote the continuation of Tim’s vision, by promoting the continued use of his work, and by supporting new work by other artists. The Trust coordinates the many uses of Tim’s work, by individuals and institutions engaged in humanitarian endeavours, using purposeful story-telling and the arts in general.
In addition to overseeing current projects, the Tim Hetherington Trust developed a grant programme to encourage the initiation of new work; the inaugural Visionary Award was announced in April 2015.
The exhibit is an introduction and tribute to several women in Afghanistan, each of whom has achieved a level of recognition, and has paid a price for breaking from the crowd.
