Since it’s launch, the East River Ferry has been a proud sponsor of hundreds of community events and activities in the various neighborhoods it serves. We’ve worked closely with our friends at United Photo Industries and Photoville since the annual festival began in 2012 and for the past two years, we’ve curated galleries showcasing our riders from all over NYC and the world. This year, as the “original” East River Ferry comes to an end, we chose to focus on the people who made it happen. From office workers to ticket agents, captains to deckhands, mechanics to operations specialists and also our very first community partners, we celebrate them for their success and thank them for their support and service.

Paul Samulski
Paul Samulski is a very lucky guy. He’s had some great jobs and worked some truly fascinating and inspiring projects in his 63 years on earth. Being one of the founders and helping to create the East River Ferry into what it has become has been one of the best. Seeing the unprecedented transformation of the waterfront communities of DUMBO, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Long Island City has been awe-inspiring. Being a designer and dues-paying member of the creative community, Paul decided to blow the dust off his camera and shoot the photos you see here, both acknowledging and thanking the “people behind the scenes” who collectively enabled over 7,000,000 riders (commuters, leisure travelers and tourists) to experience the East River Ferry to date.
