Photoville

Mother and Son is part of a long-term photographic project about living with and caring for my 90-year-old mother in the apartment where I grew up in Queens, New York. What began as a temporary arrangement during the pandemic gradually became a six-year shared life shaped by caregiving, humor, and negotiation, as our small apartment absorbed the practical and emotional realities of housing, care, and growing older in the city. Working collaboratively, my mother and I stage photographs drawn from everyday life that reflect the shifting roles between parent and child. Balancing tenderness with absurdity, the images explore dependence, family intimacy, and the strange closeness that can emerge when families improvise care within the home.
