Idled by a newspaper strike in the summer of 1978, eight New York Times staff photographers were enlisted by the New York City parks commissioner to document a summer in the city’s parks. The images, 2,924 color slide, sat unseen for 40 years and were recently discovered by a conservancy official cleaning out an office.
The New York Times
Since 1851, the New York Times has been on the ground reporting stories from around the globe that no one else was telling. How we tell those stories has changed, but our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world has remained constant.
