Still photographers have been on set since the nascent days of cinema. The set photographer has the job of capturing the film making process behind the scenes, and the images are also used for publicity, so the film will be recognizable by the time it’s on the screen.
Many of the intimate moments that inform our collective and cultural cinematic imagination were shot by unit still photographers on set. Beyond the typical press kit of fifty shots used to market a project, there exists a trove of long unseen images, archived and preserved so we may present you with some of the work as seen by the dedicated eyes of these photographic artists.
The SMPSP presents a curated exhibition of both historic and current film production stills.
