Holly Stuart Hughes is the editor of Photo District News and PDNOnline.com, the monthly magazine and website for professional photographers. PDN provides photographers with the news, inspiration and insights they need to succeed. Each year, the editors of PDN publish PDN’s 30, an annual issue showcasing 30 new and emerging photographers to watch, and providing information for student and emerging photographers on launching and sustaining a career in today’s market.
Sasha Arutyonova has shot for The New York Times, AFAR and Norwegian Air. A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts, she was chosen for PDN’s 30 2017, the magazine’s issue on new and emerging photographers to watch. She is the cofounder of the collective Nomadique. Her work was chosen this year for The Fence.
Benedict Evans’s photography has been published in New York, The Guardian Weekend, WIRED and Esquire, and he has shot assignments for Budweiser and Cadillac. He assisted photographer Platon for five years before striking out on his own. Selected for PDN’s 30 2017: New and Emerging Photographers to Watch, he has also been honored in American Photography 31 and 32, the PDN Photo Annual and other awards.
Jake Naughton When We Were Strangers 278 Backers, $25,047 Raised
Jake Naughton is a Mexico City-based visual artist and journalist making work about queer identity in the present moment.
This takes the form of long-term, in-depth projects like This is How the Heart Beats, about East Africa’s LGBTQ community, Both Sides of the Veil, which showcases a strange limbo for India’s queer community, or When We Were Strangers, which explores and deconstructs love through the prism of his own relationship with his partner.
Alongside his artistic practice, he makes commissioned work for editorial and commercial clients like Airbnb, The New York Times, WIRED Magazine, Instagram, and more.
Frances F. Denny is a photographer whose work has been shown at ClampArt Gallery in New York City and in numerous group exhibitions. She is also one half of Dafne, a creative partnership with art director Catherine Duffy that produces campaigns. Denny’s first book, “Let Virtue Be Your Guide,” was published by Radius Books in 2016. She was named one of PDN’s 30 in 2016.
