Alex M Sanchez

Alex M Sanchez (Alex Mousan) is a documentary photographer and filmmaker born and raised in Miami, Florida. Growing up with a diverse background (Nicaraguan, Panamanian and Middle Eastern heritage) gave her the skills to engage with people from all around the globe which makes her work unique and intimate. She speaks Spanish, French and is currently learning Arabic. She focuses most of her work on travel, nonprofit work and global humanitarian issues.

She received her B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida. Her work has been published in the Miami Herald, USA Today, Tampa Bay Times, St Augustine Record, and The Gainesville Sun.

She has worked internationally as a freelance photojournalist and as a photography instructor in parts of Asia, the Caribbean, Central and North America. Most of her archival images are from the Middle East, Asia and Central America.

Alex is a Program Manager for Diversify Photo, and a member of Authority Collective, The Video Consortium and Brown Girls Doc Mafia collectives. She is currently based in Durham, North Carolina, USA but available for assignments worldwide.

She attends University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her Masters in Visual Communications at the Hussman School of Journalism as a Roy H. Park Fellow.

This compilation of work supported by the Pulitzer Center and Diversify Photo explores themes of erasure, injustice, and resilience in the face of climate change—taking viewers to climate-affected communities from the sunny hills of Southern California to fading coastlines in Mexico and melting glaciers in Peru.
